Exeter Annual Awards

Man and Woman of Year

Guidelines

Every year, Exeter Chamber of Commerce presents the awards for Exeter’s Man and Woman of the Year, Heritage, Business and Beautification. The date of the banquet will be shown in our website Calendar, posted in our Newsletter, and published in local publications.

Guidelines

Award recipients shall be selected from individuals residing within the Exeter community (specifically the Exeter Union High School District) and/or owning or employed in an Exeter area business.

Honoree for either Man/Woman of the year or Heritage awards will be deemed ineligible to receive the subsequent award for a minimum of 10 years.

Man and Woman of Year Award Criteria

  • Someone who has distinguished themselves in their careers and personal lives.
  • Civic and community involvement, i.e., government, schools, etc.
  • Voluntary work on behalf of community charitable efforts (including church and nonprofit).
  • Any other special recognition in the community.

Past award winners include many of the community’s most recognizable and successful residents but nominees need not necessarily be prominent individuals, anyone doing significant and beneficial work on behalf of any segment of the community should be considered. Nominees need not be members of the Exeter Chamber of Commerce. Current Chamber Board of Directors are not eligible for consideration.

Exeter Heritage Award Criteria

  • Participating member of the community for 25 years or more.
  • Outstanding service & contributions to the community over an extended period of time.* Civic and community dedication, volunteer work on behalf of charitable organizations (including church & non profit).
  • Involvement in county and state government, which influences Exeter.
  • Contributions above and beyond the line of duty.

Selection Guidelines

Exeter’s Man & Woman Of The Year And Heritage Award

Annual awards shall be presented at the Annual Chamber Banquet. Award recipients shall be selected from individuals residing within the Exeter community (specifically the Exeter Union High School District), and/or owning or employed in an Exeter area business. Current members of the Chamber Board of Directors and/or their businesses are not eligible for consideration.

One Man of the Year shall be selected, one Woman of the Year shall be selected based on the following criteria: those persons who have distinguished themselves in their careers and personal lives. Civic and community involvement (government, schools, etc.), voluntary work on behalf of community charitable efforts (including church and non-profit), and any other special or recognition in the community.

One Heritage Award recipient shall be selected based on the following criteria: Participating member of the community for 25 years or more and outstanding service and contributions to the community over an extended period of time, civic and community dedication, volunteer work on behalf of charitable organizations (including church and non-profit, involvement in county and state government that influences Exeter and other contributions above and beyond the line of duty.

Honoree for either Man/Woman of the Year or Heritage Award will be deemed ineligible to receive the subsequent award for a minimum of 10 years.

Business of the Year award recognizes contributions above and beyond the norm in promoting their business, the community of Exeter and the chamber. The selection is based on the following criteria.

  1. Current Chamber Member
  2. Civic and community involvement, i.e., government, schools, etc.
  3. Voluntary work on behalf of community charitable efforts (including Church and non- profit)
  4. Any other special recognition in the community
  5. A major or one-time achievement of particular significance
  6. 6Business and professional leadership beyond the line of duty
  7. Outstanding service and contributions to the community over an extended period of time.

Beautification Award is given to the chamber member business or organization which has done the most in the last several years to improve its appearance or the appearance of the community, including using architecture and landscaping complimentary to the theme of the city.

Exeter Chamber of Commerce Bylaws, Article II; Section 6-Honorary Membership:

Distinction in public affairs shall confer eligibility to honorary membership. Honorary members shall have all the privileges of members.

The selection committee shall consist of Chamber Board of Directors, City Administrator, Mayor and two (2) of the most recent Man and Woman of the Year honorees. The Executive Director of the Chamber or his/her designee, shall serve as a non-voting advisory member.

Selection Guidelines

  1. The Chamber Executive Director shall make available to the community at large through mailings, press releases and other appropriate means the guidelines for nominations for Man and Woman of the Year, Heritage, Beautification & Business of the Year Awards starting in September/October.
  2. Nomination forms shall be made available at the Chamber office as well.
  3. Nominations must be received in the Chamber office before the second Friday in January.
  4. Only nominations that are properly completed (facsimiles are allowed) and signed by the nominator will be considered by the selection committee.
  5. Proper nominations received in the previous three (3) calendar years shall be considered by the committee.
  6. Nominations by selection committee members will not be considered. Current members of the Chamber Board of Directors and/or their businesses are not eligible for consideration.
  7. The selection committee shall be convened by the Chamber Executive Director or designee, as soon as possible after the second Friday in January with the selection process to be completed not later than fifteen (15) days prior to the scheduled Annual Banquet.
  8. The Chamber Executive Director or designee, shall announce awards to the recipients and release announcements to the public as soon as possible after the selections are made. All information will be kept confidential until released to selectees.
  9. The selection committee may also select from the nominees, if desired, recipient(s) of the Exeter Heritage Award, and shall make recommendations to other agencies approved by the Chamber to make awards at this banquet.
  10. Selection Process: Nomination review, discussion & silent ballot.
  11. The recipients will be chosen by a majority vote and honored at the Annual Banquet. Any exceptions require Chamber Board of Directors approval.
